Frugal Friday

Ever think that allocating a particular day to save your money is a good choice?  Well, it is.  Similar to dieting, one should fast at least one day a week in order to revamp yourself a bit, just to settle.  The same goes for your money.  Let the dust settle a bit.  The week is over, re-charge.  Relax.  It wouldn’t hurt to spend the night with friends by cooking a meal with ingredients found in your cupboard, or to crack open a bottle of wine that is slightly dusty.  Use what you’ve got.  Just because you are not spending dollars does not mean you are not spending quality time with yourself or others.  Humans accumulate so many things over the course of a lifetime.  Why not be a bit creative and think of ways to utilize items that we already have?

If you’re planning to stay in with the kids, go to a kids DIY site and check out some fun and crafty projects with old sheets, used crayons, toilet paper rolls, and have a blast with your family.  Some people think that their self-worth and their family’s good time is based on how much money is spent on the afternoon or the evening.  How about…none.  How good would it feel to have a blast and not spend a penny?  With a house or an apartment full of stuff, why not spend a little time digging out family pictures, or throwing away pictures of your ex in that shoe box under your bed?  There are literally hundreds of ideas, hobbies, organizing activities to do.  Another concept, might be working out at home or cuddling up with a good book or taking a bath.  How often have you put time aside for yourself?

The point of Frugal Friday is to realize that the kids don’t need to be overindulged with expensive ice cream sundaes and neon rainbow loom, go home, a friend’s home, the park, and enjoy time spent together.  Pack an early dinner in a cooler and enjoy the sunset.  For the millions of things to do…why not do them for free?
